We don’t see much of this in the USA. These Venetian blinds by Hella

can change the temperature of a room by 15 degrees during the summer.

Each blind has an electric motor so we are able to control the tilt of the

blind for sun control as well as open the inside doors for fresh air..

HELLA Retro Look

Retro look from the inside.

We have just installed these on our building. They save so much energy

on Western facing windows as shown here. There is very little heat gain

on a 90 degree day in full sun!

NanaWall great system.

The Pasadena EcoHouse and ALNO Pasadena

Designed by Robert Mechielsen’s Studio RMA, The Pasadena EcoHouse will be the first single-family, structural concrete insulated panel (SCIP) home in the nation to earn Platinum LEED, as well as the first LEED Platinum home in Pasadena, CA. To earn the Platinum rating, the 1,975 sq.-ft. project will score points in several categories, including design, location, site impact, water and energy efficiency, indoor air quality, and green building awareness and education.

The Pasadena EcoHouse will feature top-of-the-line green building and design products, including a grid-tied solar electric system, a solar hot water system, recycled glass countertops, a ductless high-efficiency heating and cooling system, permeable hardscape, a rain and greywater catchment system and many more. ALNO has recently announced the selection of its ALNOCHIC kitchen cabinet collection for the EcoHouse’s interior. Believing that the interior structure of a home is just as important as its exterior, the homeowners opted for the cabinetry of ALNO Pasadena. They chose ALNOCHIC – a modern, yet curvaceous cabinet collection which would offer an attractive contrast to the angular shape of the home. The upper cabinets will feature a high-gloss olive brown wood-grain finish, while the lower cabinets will have a high-gloss vanilla finish.

“The homeowners wanted cabinets that have the look of wood, but were still eco-friendly,” said Fred Crockett, owner of ALNO PASADENA. “After searching the country for a cabinet manufacturer that could provide a wholly green product that would allow them to receive LEED certification, they found us.”

ALNO has led the industry in green manufacturing for over 80 years. They have been using non-toxic paints and lacquers, free from heavy metals and low in emissions for over 20 years. Products are manufactured using recycled and regenerated wood from certified resources as well as the continued use of non-toxic laminates, aluminum, glass and technical veneers. ALNO only uses lumber, veneers, and wood panels from fully managed sustainable forests.
